Our Canvas for the School Fair.

This week we finished the canvas we were painting for the school fair on Friday 2nd. We chose a picture from the drawings we had made for our calendars. Theoden drew the picture we decided to use.
First we had to photocopy the picture onto a see through transparency. Then Mrs Craib helped us use an OHP to shine the picture on the canvas. We drew the picture on and then Theoden chose us to come and help paint parts of the canvas. We had to be very careful to paint inside the lines. We are very proud of our finished work. We hope it sells for lots of money at the fair.

Problem Solving

We were given a huge puzzle to solve during the week. It was a 500 piece Lord of the Rings jigsaw puzzle. It took us 3 days to finish this as lots of the pieces were the same colour. First we had to sort the pieces into colours. Each group took a colour and tried to find pieces that went together. Then we made a frame of the outside pieces. We all put the pieces we had made together but there were still a lot to add. Emmerson and Cameron showed fantastic persistence and kept trying different pieces until they found the ones that fit.
Success - we finished it!

Keeping Christchurch beautiful

Yesterday we went down to Selwyn Street to help add plants to a special garden.

Ms Loveridge and Mr Woods showed us how to dig a hole and to  put the plants into the compost.

We all had a turn at planting.

Then we helped find rocks and stones to add to a wall to protect the garden.

We are going to remember to water the garden when we go past.
We had fun planting the garden.

East Club

Yesterday the Mighty Minnows team went to East Club. East Club was at the Leeston Showground.

The children from the area were showing their animals. We saw pigs, lambs and a sheep called 'Chocolate chip', calves, kids, roosters, bunny rabbits, kittens and cats, a rat, and even eels.

We were allowed to pat the the animals and even tickle the eels tummies.

After lunch we played games with the children from Southbridge School. We had a three-legged race, jump in the sacks, tennis racquet race, bean bags in a bucket, a clothes race, tug of war, egg and spoon race and gumboot throw. We had fun with our Southbridge friends.

We went on a double decker bus - it was exciting traveling on the top deck!

Run, Jump, Throw

Yesterday we went out to join in with the run, jump, throw activities with the Mighty Minnows team. First we had to throw the discus. We can throw this a long way. Some people tried to get it across the field.

Then we went on to the long jump. We can all leap into the sand.

Next was the high jump and we jumped over the elastics. Some of us are really good at doing the scissor jump.

After that we had to get through the obstacle course. Up, down, in and out, jump, jump, run in and out, then through the ladder. What a lot of obstacles.

Before lunch we finished our shot put. It's really hard to remember clean palm, dirty neck and then do it. The shot put was heavy.

After lunch we did our running races.
We all tried to do our personal best.

AJ the Scarecrow Finds a New Home

During the week AJ went to his new home. Mr Craib picked him up in his truck and took him to a beautiful vegetable patch. This garden belongs to John - who is Mrs Craib's Dad.
AJ looks very happy scaring away the birds in his new garden. He has a big job to do because there are pukekos that attack Johns vegetable patch.

AJ looks very happy in his new home. We hope to visit him one day

Room 4's Harvest

Yesterday we dug up our carrots. We had to dig down beside the green tops and then push up. It was hard to get them out of the ground. Some of them were huge.

We also got to pick the peas and beans. We had to look carefully among the green leaves to find them. We found enough for all of us to eat them.

They were yummy!

Ronald McDonald Visits Our School

On Wednesday Ronald McDonald visited our school We were waiting in the hall and he walked in - we didn't know he was coming! What a surprise!

He was doing his washing on a windy day and his red stripy sock blew away. He decided to walk along the road to find it. When he came to a sneaky driveway he told us he needed to stop and look. This was a dangerous place because cars can come along before we know. We need to look and listen before going across the driveway.

Then he wanted to cross the road to get to our school. He found a pedestrian crossing. He showed us how to STOP, LOOK and LISTEN when we cross the road.

We helped Ronald McDonald find his red stripy sock - it was on his back.

We liked having Ronald McDonald at our school.
