AJ the Scarecrow Finds a New Home

During the week AJ went to his new home. Mr Craib picked him up in his truck and took him to a beautiful vegetable patch. This garden belongs to John - who is Mrs Craib's Dad.
AJ looks very happy scaring away the birds in his new garden. He has a big job to do because there are pukekos that attack Johns vegetable patch.

AJ looks very happy in his new home. We hope to visit him one day

Room 4's Harvest

Yesterday we dug up our carrots. We had to dig down beside the green tops and then push up. It was hard to get them out of the ground. Some of them were huge.

We also got to pick the peas and beans. We had to look carefully among the green leaves to find them. We found enough for all of us to eat them.

They were yummy!

Ronald McDonald Visits Our School

On Wednesday Ronald McDonald visited our school We were waiting in the hall and he walked in - we didn't know he was coming! What a surprise!

He was doing his washing on a windy day and his red stripy sock blew away. He decided to walk along the road to find it. When he came to a sneaky driveway he told us he needed to stop and look. This was a dangerous place because cars can come along before we know. We need to look and listen before going across the driveway.

Then he wanted to cross the road to get to our school. He found a pedestrian crossing. He showed us how to STOP, LOOK and LISTEN when we cross the road.

We helped Ronald McDonald find his red stripy sock - it was on his back.

We liked having Ronald McDonald at our school.

Rhubarb performs for Our School

Yesterday Mary and Peter came to perform at our school for the Duffy Assembly. They are called Rhubarb.

Mary told us stories and Peter played the guitar and sang too.

The stories were Chicken Little and The 7 Dancing Princes. Mrs Abraham was a chicken in Chicken Little and she was funny. She acted like a chicken the whole time. Lourelle helped in the story and she was a horse.

In the 7 Dancing Princes, Mr Cain had to be an old lady and he talked weird - his voice was all crackly. Nikolas and Anthony were princes and they turned into a bird and had to fly around. They turned back into princes when the princess didn't talk.
We really enjoyed the stories.
After the stories we got our Duffy books.

New PMP activities

This week we were challenged with new PMP activities. We had to climb up and along a ladder, jump with two feet off a box, pull ourselves along on a boogie board, use tiddlywinks to get into a circle, keeping balloons up in the air, and bowling over the skittles.
We had great fun.

WITS and Good Choices

We have been focusing on using our W.I.T.S and making good choices.
W.I.T.S means
W = walk away
I = Ignore
T = Talk to them, tell them how you feel
S = Seek help from a teacher or adult.

We have been practising this in our classroom and trying to use this in the playground too.
We are trying very hard to make good choices.

Using our Green Hat Thinking.

In Room 4 we like to use our 'Green Hat' thinking. When we do this we are creative and we make things out of lego, slots and mega blocks. Here are some of the things we have made.

Addington Kick off for the Rugby World Cup.

Today we had a kick off in our playground. Kahu Jones in Room 7 suggested we all kick a rugby ball at the same time to 'kick off' the Rugby World Cup.
When it was Room 4's turn we got to kick it or catch it with Ms Heath. Some of us kicked it a long way.
It was fun.

Making a Scarecrow

We made a scarecrow for the Mitre 10 competition.
First we had to stuff the stockings with straw. Then we had to put a shirt over the top. Some people stuffed the trousers with straw- they looked really full. Mrs Craib had to help us put the trousers onto the shirt and then attach it to the stick. We had gloves and shoes to glue on as well.
We decided to call him AJ, which stands for Addington Junior. We loved our scarecrow.
AJ is number 13 in the competition. He is standing to the left of the main doors at Mitre 10 Mega in Hornby.  You can get the voting forms at the information desk - vote for AJ Number 13!!!!
