Hollie From the ASB Visits

Yesterday Hollie from the ASB came to our class and she told us about banking.
She became a super hero called Captain Cashtastic. She told us to say 'munch munch, munch' when she said 'Munchers Mash.'

She showed us some notes and coins and we had to put them in order from the smallest to the biggest.

We had to go on a secret mission to find the money clues. The money was on her cape and on her bag.

She told us we had to ' speak to your needs and wait for your wants.'

She went to Money Makety with her friend Aroha - who was Frances in our class.

It was fun having Hollie in our classroom. We loved listening to her story and joining in with the actions.

The Daily Five

Every day we are reading and writing in our classroom.

The daily 5 is
- read for 5 minutes to ourselves
- read to someone else
- have someone read to us
- write a story
- write words.

We are really good at reading to ourselves for 5 minutes. We know we  can do this when we can
- look at the words
- look at the pictures for tricky words
- read in our head
- turn the pages one at a time
- read for at least 5 minutes.

Rocky Bob's visit

On Tuesday Thom brought his rabbit, ‘Rocky Bob’ to school.
We used our ‘Seven Servants’ to ask Thom questions about Rocky Bob.

Who did you get him from?
Nana and Pop had him in their garden.

Why did they give him to you?
Because their dog put him out the cat door and then he hid Rocky Bob. So they thought it wasn’t safe for him.

Where does he live?
In a hutch in our garden.

What does he eat?
He eats pellets, carrots, grass and corn.

How did he get the name Rocky Bob?
My sister wanted to call him Rocky and I wanted to call him Bob so we joined both names together.

We all got to pat Rocky Bob. He was very soft.

Library Roadshow

On Tuesday we went to the library with the Minnows team. The ladies from the Spreydon library came to read us some stories.

One story was about animals in the sea. They gave some of us things to hold to be part of the story. The rest of the children had to remember - giggle, giggle, giggle, tee, hee, hee there's lots of laughter under the sea, when it was time to join in. The Taniwha tried to catch all the animals.

We love listening to stories.

PMP Programme

Today we thought about our PMP programme. We used our 7 servants and asked questions to each other about it. Then we had to answer the questions.

                                                       What is PMP?
PMP is activities we do to exercise. PMP stands for Perceptual Motor Programme.

Who runs it?
Liz and the parents from our school.

Where do you do it?
In the hall.

When do you do it?
We go to PMP on Monday and Tuesday.

How long do you do it for each day?
We are in the hall for half and hour.

What do you do?
The activities we do are crawling, jumping, rolling, catching, naming, tightrope walking, eye exercise, stepping and matching.

Why do you go to PMP?
To get fit and to exercise and practise our coordination.

Which activities do you have to do?
There are 5 stations in the hall. we are in groups and we get to do the activities. We have to jump over the rope, crawl along the rope like a baby, lie down and keep your eye on the ball, roll the ball and practise catching, throw the bean bag in the hoop, balance on the line, step through the ladder, crawl through the tunnel, crawl through the shapes, and jump on the shapes.

Garden Explorers

On Monday we went to the Botanical Gardens. We met Ben, Katy and Brian.

Ben told us how to make friends with the trees. We had to put a blindfold on and hold out our monster arms to feel for the trees. Our partner had to hold our shoulders and help us walk along.

Then Ben took us to meet Betty Beetle. We had to help Betty find her friends. We had a magnifying glass to hunt for the insects.

After that we played a forest game. Some of us were insects and some of us were birds. The adults were the trees. The builder chopped down some trees and we had to find new homes for the insects. Then we had to plant a new tree because the insects didn't have a house to live in.

At the end Ben read us a story. We helped Ben with the puppets.

We had lots of fun at the Botanical gardens.
